Although a well-respected composer in his own right, Peter Schickele is best known as the creator of P.D.Q. Bach, and as such one of the masters of musical pastiche. This has occasionally led him into the realm of opera, including one complete evening-length work, The Abduction of Figaro. He has written no traditional operas under his own name, although he has composed several stage works of other kinds.
