Since opera would not be opera without the music, here are a few excerpts from early American operas, in a number of different formats. If you would like to see another format represented, or if you have any questions, just let me know.
The formats available are:
- Finale Viewer. This is the easiest way to view the scores, but it requires a special plugin, Coda's Finale Viewer plugin, currently available only for certain platforms. For more information, visit Coda's web site.
- PDF. To preserve the quality of the notation, PDF files may be very large.
- PostScript. Raw PostScript printer data for PostScript printers.
- MIDI. Unedited type 1 MIDI files. Because the scores have been prepared primarily for printing, many notation elements (dynamics, tremolos, articulations, tempo changes) may not be reflected in the MIDI file.
Not all formats may be available for all files. Most of the links on this page will open in a new browser window. Unless otherwise noted, all excerpts are from the piano-vocal score.
